Experience in the Criminal Justice Field and Education
Mr. McPartland has over 30 years of experience in criminal justice and is the founder of McPartland Federal Prison Strategies. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and his Juris Doctor from the Hofstra University School of Law in New York. He also studied in Europe at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, and the University of Paris, La Sorbonne in Paris, France.
He was a prosecutor in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in New York for over 26 years. He rose through the ranks of that office from a line Assistant District Attorney to Deputy Bureau Chief and Bureau Chief. He later became the Division Chief of Investigations, supervising the investigative bureaus. He has extensive experience in all phases of investigations and both prosecution and defense strategies.
Mr. McPartland also served as a Special United States Attorney for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn, New York. There, he prosecuted complex cases against organized crime members of La Cosa Nostra in New York.
Experience with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and Prison Consulting
Mr. McPartland was also convicted of Obstruction of Justice and sentenced to 5 years in federal prison. He served a sentence at FCI Beaumont, Texas. He became fully familiar with the workings of the Federal Bureau of Prisons from firsthand exposure. Mr. McPartland learned firsthand the administrative remedy process within the Bureau of Prisons and the many procedural aspects of a federal prison sentence. He no longer practices law and does not provide legal advice.
Upon his release from prison, he was hired by Joel Sickler of the Justice Advocacy Group located in Alexandria, Virginia, where he was further mentored in prison consulting.
Mr. McPartland is a consultant for individuals facing post-conviction issues, including sentence mitigation, First Step Act credit and application, preparing defendants and their families for a prison sentence, challenges during incarceration, administrative remedies, BOP sentence calculation errors, Compassionate Release, training prospective inmates for life in federal prison, and working toward early pre-release placement and re-entry. Inmates and prospective inmates face many difficulties.

Mr. McPartland has 30 years of expertise in criminal justice both as a former attorney and having served a federal prisons sentence himself. He has experience in law enforcement as a prosecutor, personal experience with the workings of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and knowledge of life in one of the country’s worst-run prisons. He provides personalized consulting to help people become as prepared as possible for a federal prison sentence. No one should go to federal prison unprepared.

We help educate you on life in prison, including healthcare issues, hygiene, safety, dealing with inmates and staff, commissary, chow hall and TV room practices, work assignments, UNICOR, and many other aspects of how to conduct yourself in prison. No one can predict everything that can happen in prison, but you should be as prepared as possible.
